Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI)

Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) is a government organization focused on effective public donations supporting disaster relief. Created by USAID in 1988, CIDI works with USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, which leads and coordinates the United States (U.S.) government's humanitarian assistance efforts overseas.

In my role as Assistant Lead Graphic Designer, I managed the graphic support needs for CIDI and its annual nationwide contest, where college students are encouraged to harness their creativity to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that illustrates why cash donations are the most effective way to support international disaster relief.

I designed graphics for social media in various formats, including animated videos and static graphics, utilizing the style guides I developed for both sites. Below are some of the projects I contributed to.

Disaster Response Graphics

When a disaster strikes, relief organizations collaborate with the host government, affected communities, and other aid agencies to evaluate needs and maximize the number of lives saved. At this point, unsolicited donations of goods are typically not needed, as they compete for time, focus, and logistical resources with essential relief supplies identified by disaster professionals.

The client requested a ready-to-use template that we could swiftly create and distribute to guide our audience to our website for more information on how to assist. Following the new style guide, I adjusted the photo and created a collaborative file in Canva using the branding tools. I updated this graphic with information as we received it.

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Canva

CIDI Website Redesign

The client requested a redesign of the website to modernize it. I collaborated with our web developer and team to update the designs according to the new style and brand guidelines. I began with wireframes and then created a mockup for the web developer to work with while building the sites. I provided the style guides to the teams as references and assisted in conducting tests for the sites before they went live.

Programs Used: Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator

Black Friday/Give Responsibly Campaign

The client requested a social media post for the Black Friday season, encouraging the audience to think about cash donations rather than goods during this giving time.

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

Why Cash is Best?

The client desired a quiz-style video to engage the audience in a fun and interactive manner. I created this video across multiple platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram Stories, utilizing their quiz stickers.

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Canva
